Marble, stone, volcanic rock, miscellaneous materials
"During my last year as a student at the Scuola Mosaicisti Del Friuli, my graduating class was offered the opportunity to make a mosaic portrait of a celebrity, materials provided by the school, if we allowed them to be exhibited around Europe for a few months afterwards. Not a chance you turn down!
During this time, I was listening to Lorde's album Pure Heroine a lot. Given my field of work, I was always struck by the line in Still Sane where she says "Only bad people live to see their likeness set in stone // What does that make me?"
So when this assignment came along, my thoughts went immediately to Lorde. That lyric, along with Ella's down-to-earth personality, is also why I chose to use predominantly natural materials for this portrait, as opposed to the more vibrant colors of smalto."
